The move follows complaints of gas emissions from the processing complex of the Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) at Hazira and the Gujarat Gas Company Ltd engulfing the Rander, Mora Bhagal, Adajan, Palanpur Patia, Parle Point and Katargaam areas in the night.
Since 1997-98, residents of Surat have been complaining of a suffocating stench engulfing the city during late nights.
After a series of meetings and fact finding missions initiated by the district collector, the gas processing complex of ONGC at Hazira and the Gujarat Gas Company Ltd which distributes piped natural gas in Surat were held responsible for the stench.
