Switzerland has set up Swissnex India, the Indian unit of Swissnex, a global network of science and technology outposts. swissnex is a programme run by Switzerland’s State Secretariat for Education and Research (SER) in cooperation with the Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (FDFA). swissnex India will be the fifth such global centre after San Francisco, Boston, Shanghai and Singapore.

Mauro Dell’Ambrogio, Switzerland’s state secretary for education and research, today announced the setting up of swissnex India, the Indian unit of swissnex. It will be in Bangalore within the premises of the Consulate General of Switzerland which is now in the process of being set up.

Swissnex India’s goal is to leverage the potential of cooperation between Switzerland and India. The centre’s mission will be to create and maintain a network of contacts between universities, research institutions, industry and other organisations in India and Switzerland. It will provide a platform for Swiss and Indian organisations to connect, share knowledge and form partnerships in science, technology, culture and innovation.

Swissnex India will help structure, implement and support government-to-government bilateral research cooperation programmes between Switzerland and India. The priority research areas of the present bilateral cooperation programme are material sciences and nanotechnology, human health and medical sciences, information and communication technologies. The Indo-Swiss cooperation is key component of the Swiss strategy for promoting scientific collaboration.

Launching Swissnex India, Dell’Ambrogio said, “The swissnex India will be in Bangalore along with the Consulate General of Switzerland, will support and extend bilateral research co-operation between India and Switzerland, along with creating a network with universities, research institutions and industry in both countries.”
