Outgoing Corporate Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid today said it is a challenge to involve retails investors at grassroot levels into the Indian corporate growth story.
"In a year-and-a-half, we have tried to reach out and educate investors to take the corporate story to all kinds of place and small cities, to towns. We have still not been able to take the corporate story to Panchayats. I think that is big challenge," said Khurshid while addressing his last public function as Corporate Affairs Minister.
Khurshid, in yesterday's reshuffle, has been elevated as the cabinet minister for Water Resources. He will also retain the portfolio of Minority Affairs.
The Minister, while addressing a function jointly organised by the All India Management Association (AIMA) and Mercer, said that the government would like every Indian to become an investor.
"I see the idea of industrial democracy evolving in this country where every Indian becomes an investor. Small or big retail investor. Every Indian has a right to tell his government how to function and change the government if the government is not performing to the satisfaction," he said.
Khurshid had assumed charge of the ministries of Corporate Affairs and Minority Affairs in May of 2009, as a Minister of State.
