The government has collected revenues of Rs 20,128.16 crore as of July for the financial year 2016-17. This was 6.55 per cent higher than the revenue collected during same period of the preceding year, an official release said.
Commercial Taxes Minister K C Veeramani, who reviewed the performance of the department at the Secretariat on Friday, directed officials to take steps to collect taxes pending for a long time, it said.

Further, it said, 78 per cent of the traders' community utilised e-filing facility while 90 per cent of the taxes were made through e-payments.
The Minister also directed officials to take stringent actions against traders who have gained tax benefits by producing false documents.
