The Tariff Commission has suggested slashing Gail India's pipeline transportation charge by 45% to make clean fuel more affordable to power, fertiliser and transport sectors. The commission has recommended a tariff of Rs 657 per thousand cubic meters of gas for the Hazira-Vijaipur-Jagdishpur (HVJ) pipeline as against the present rate of Rs 1,191, official sources said. The tariff was arrived at after averaging the normative price computed on the discounted cash flow of the HVJ pipeline, and the newly constructed Dahej-Vijaipur pipeline that joins the HVJ network of pielines at Vijaipur. The present tariff for the HVJ pipeline was fixed on the recommendation of the Sankar Committee that computed the price based on projected investment on the HVJ upgradation project, which was under implementation at that time. "A number of deviations have taken place from the assumptions made by the committee for computing the price," the commission noted in its report.
