Tax Notices May Be Scrapped

Corporates may be spared the financial hassle of making repetitive annual provisioning for excise and customs duty cases locked up as arrears. The finance ministry is considering dispensing with the procedure of issuing repetitive notices to them.

This is part of a move to simplify the indirect tax regime by the Centre.

The revenue department issues protective demand notices every year on disputed cases of excise or customs duty between the department and companies.
