Tax sops cut in petrochem zones

Benefits of tax holiday under Section 80 (I) (A) of the Income Tax Act in the proposed petroleum, chemicals and petrochemicals investment regions (PCPIR) will only be available to either the developer or the co-developer of a zone and not both.
 
This assumes importance as the trend for such zones (like in special economic zones) is that after a main promoter/developer gets approval, he involves a number of co-developers in the project with an eye on sharing costs.
 
The decision was taken at the third meeting of the task force on the proposed regions chaired by Manmohan Singh's Principal Secretary TKA Nair.
