"Women in this country will not get justice until they are provided one-third reservation in Parliament and Assemblies. Our fight will continue till this legislation becomes a reality," Naidu said at a meeting organised by NTR Memorial Trust, of which he is the chairman, on the occasion of International Women's Day.

Without naming any party, he said some forces had put obstacles in the way of the reservation bill and scuttled its passage by Parliament.

Assuring that his party would stand by them in their fight to achieve political empowerment, Naidu said that the time had come for women to play a greater role in politics and in deciding the policy matters.

Virtually turning the event into a forum for the party campaign, he told a gathering of women self-help groups and other women from various walks of life "my government has been striving hard to improve the lot of women and introduced several welfare schemes for them. I seek your support in the several welfare schemes for them. I seek your support in the coming elections to ensure continuity in development."

The CM gave away awards to 11 prominent women achievers in various fields including tennis star Sania Mirza, writer Yaddanapudi Sulochanarani, veteran actress Anjali Devi and singer Shobharaj.

Naidu indicated that his party was prepared to give more tickets to women in the coming elections. "We want women to set an example for others to follow. We will give them their due share in terms of political empowerment," he said.
