New Chamta Tea Garden in Terai, near Siliguri, reopened on Thursday after a brief lock-out that had arisen out of a worker-management dispute, the management of the tea garden said.

A bipartite meeting between the workers' unions and management, held at the garden yesterday, had accepted the workers' demand of weekly ration. The management also agreed to provide ration for one more minor in each worker's family.

The Citu had demanded that ration be provided to all dependents of garden workers.

The management also did not accept the Citu's major demand of weekly payment of wages against the existing system of fortnightly payment, manager of the garden Manas Bhattacharjee said.
