The byelections in 12 constituencies of the Telangana region saw a 63.35 per cent turnout.
State election officer IV Subba Rao said Sirpur recorded 61 per cent voting, Mancheryal 62 per cent, Nizamabad (urban) 51 per cent, Siddipet 72 per cent, Warangal (West) 59 per cent, Ella Reddy 72 per cent, Huzurabad 69 per cent, Dharmapuri 63 per cent, Vemulawada 55 per cent, Chennur 66 per cent, Sircila 58 per cent and Korutla 70 per cent.
The total number of electors in the 12 Assembly segments is 2.3 million and polling was held in 2,783 booths. Ballot paper were used for the first time after 1998 in five constituencies as the total number of candidates in the fray exceeded the maximum limit of 64 for an EVM.
The bypolls were required as the sitting MLAs had quit in support of separate Telangana.
State Congress president D Srinivas and TRS president K Chandrasekhar Rao’s son K T Rama Rao are among the prominent candidates. The counting would be on July 30.
