Speaking at the Green Building Congress today, IT minister KT Rama Rao said “the state would be floating tenders for about 1,000-Mw solar power in the next one week and this would be one of the biggest solar parks in the country.”
The minister added the state was keen on harnessing all sources of renewable energy to plug the energy shortfall besides meeting the growing demand.

He also said the government, in order to raise the green cover from the existing 25 per cent to ideal 33 per cent, would plant 2.3 billion saplings covering the length and breadth of the state.
Among the key initiatives being taken up by his ministry in the last three months, he said, retrofitting of 124 IT parks was going well as part of the five point programme towards raising green norms for energy consumption.
While the ongoing 72-km metro rail project will cover mass transportation needs of city population, Telangana government plans to improve the last mile transport connectivity through light rail transport system (LRTS).
“The transport department is exploring the LRTS project and the plan is being studied by it,” he added.
Also, the state is keen on improving living conditions of slums in Hyderabad. Towards this, Rao said, "We have identified more than 1,600 notified slums in the city. We had initial talks with corporate houses who are actually doing it in Mumbai under the slum rehabilitation programme and affordable housing."
