The narco-analysis (drug induced interrogation) of prime accused in the fake stamps and stamp paper scam Abdul Karim Telgi has revealed payments to the tune of Rs 22 lakh made to former Mumbai police chief R S Sharma and Rs 32 lakh to Telegu Desam Party (TDP) MLA Krishna Yadav.

The special investigation team (SIT) appointed to probe the affair in Maharashtra made this submission before the Pune court on Monday. In addition, Samajwadi Janata Party (SJP) MLA Anil Gote was also listed as a beneficiary of large amounts of money from Telgi, the court was told. The narco analysis test was carried out last month.

According to the details of the test, it was revealed that Gote was getting "large sums of money" from Telgi towards his Kisan Trust which he floated along with Telgi in Mumbai.

Telgi, while under the influence of the 'truth serum', also told interrogators that in return for his monetary largesse, Gote helped him in selling fake stamp papers and stamps.

He also admitted to enjoying close relations with some prominent Karnataka ministers besides several high-ranking officials. The court proceedings, from hereon, will assume significance as more names of politicians belonging to various parties from Maharashtra too are likely to emerge as possible recipients money from Telgi.

A senior official told Business Standard that the SIT was already probing the role of money in police transfers being effected in Maharashtra and the role played by the state home department.

Telgi's recorded telephonic conversations with the now arrested Pune sleuth AC Mulani had given the SIT the first clues towards this line of investigation.

In the 100 hours of telephonic conversations that the SIT has transcribed, Telgi was asked to provide huge funds by Mulani for effecting the transfer of senior police officials to Mumbai so that the probe against him could effectively be scuttled.

While the telephonic conversations may eventually fail to find legal admissibility, the court has approved the narco analysis report as admissible evidence.
