The Kolkata chapter of The Indus Entrepreneurs (TiE), a non-profit organisation for promoting entrepreneurship, will organise the first US entrepreneurship symposium in India from January 14. |
The symposium would be taken to other cities like Bangalore and Delhi. |
According to Shoummo Acharya, president, TiE Kolkata, "Such public-private dialogues, funded in part by The Kauffman Foundation and supported by in-country partners like TiE Kolkata, would showcase models, encourage small business, and focus on establishing, managing and growing enterprises." |
The symposium will be held in partnership with US because US was one of the most successful entrepreneurial societies in the world. |
"In India there are too many regulations that hamper the growth of entrepreneurship compared to other countries like US. So, reformation of labour laws, bankrupcy laws and quick legal actions, are expected to pave way for entrepreneurship in India," pointed out Acharya. |
According to Henry V Jardine, consul general of America in Kolkata, "From January 13, the assistant secretary for Market Access and Compliance David Bohigian will visit Kolkata. He will lead a delegation of 11 renewable energy companies that will meet the local companies to investigate potential opportunities here. This trade mission is part of the Asia Pacific Partnership on Clean Development and Climate, a key initiative for both India and the US and other participating countries." |
The symposium expected about 40 entrepreneurs from Bengal and rest of India and about 10 US delegates. |
The US-India Entrepreneurship Symposium was part of an international initiative launched by the Kauffman Foundation and International Trade Administration (ITA) targeting Brazil, China, Europe, India, Mexico and Russia with three symposia at least every year in each. |
The symposium would host public-private dialogues between US and local experts and officials to create environment that encouraged entrepreneurship. |
The symposium would seek changes in policy, labour laws, legal framework and regulations, to encourage growth of small and medium entreprises. |
