The Tamil Nadu government has recently sanctioned a post of Electricity Ombudsman within the Tamil Nadu Electricity Regulatory Commission, according to the state electricity minister Arcot N Veeraswami.
Speaking at the All-India Conference of Chairmen of Central and State Electricity Regulatory Commissions, which was inaugurated here today, the minister said the state government had recently sanctioned the post of Electricity Ombudsman with a liberal pay scale.
Prior to this, the post was funded by the erstwhile Tamil Nadu Electricity Board (TNEB), now known as the Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation (Tangedco).
“The state government was keen to dissociate the power of Electricity Ombudsman from the Board and therefore decided to sanction the power in the establishment of Commission,” the minister said. “This is health trend, which should generate confidence among the electricity consumers across the state,” he added.
He noted that the consumer forums registered 2,142 cases till March 2010, of which 1,879 cases had been disposed of.
