Chief minister J Jayalalithaa has announced 100 per cent subsidy to small and tiny farmers going for micro irrigation and 75 per cent for other farmers.
An official press release here said the chief minister had resolved to conserve water and to manage it effectively and also to expand the micro irrigation scheme to all parts of the state.
“Tiny farms can get subsidy for up to 2.5 acre land and small farmers can get for five acres. Those who are pursuing agriculture by getting the land through lease can also apply for the benefit,” it said.
Farmers can select companies providing micro irrigation equipment on their own but the firms should have the authorisation of the Tamil Nadu Horticulture Development Agency.
The micro irrigation system should be maintained for at least three years and an agreement in this regard should be reached between farmers, the company concerned and those who are executing the scheme,the release said.
The government is also planning to introduce a service card to farmers to know the grievances, if any, on the scheme.
