The commercial tax revenue during the first five months of the financial year in Tamil Nadu has registered 17.3 per cent growth, amounting to Rs 9,459 crore as against Rs 8,069 crore during the corresponding period last year, Tamil Nadu Commercial Taxes Minister S N M Ubayadullah said.
The government was confident of achieving 20 to 22 per cen growth during the financial year over Rs. 19,952 crore registered in 2007-08, Ubayadullah told reporters here.
The department has collected Rs.16,615 crore during 2006-07.
The state has witnessed uniform growth in all the sectors after implementation of VAT in 2007, he said, adding the Centre had given Rs. 2,040 crore from VAT and Rs. 647.54 crore as CST share.
The Centre has to pay arrears amounting to Rs. 5,047 crore from VAT and Rs. 725 crore from under CST, the minister said.
Ubaydullah, here to review the progress of collection of revenue, said Chennai South was contributing one-third of the revenue to the total pool, the highest in the State.
Coimbatore's revenue collection has witnessed six per cent growth, totalling Rs 744 crore April 1, 2008 which however is against Rs 699 crore last year.
