The details of the proposed measure would be worked out in three months, commerce minister Murasoli Maran said while announcing the policy today.
He said the transport assistance would be available for the export of fresh and processed fruits, vegetables, floriculture, poultry, dairy and products of wheat and rice. Similar assistance would be also given to the foodgrain stocks of the Food Corporation of India to facilitate their liquidation.
This move will help promote the much-needed diversification of the agriculture sector by encouraging farmers to divert from foodgrains to horticulture, floriculture and other supplementary rural occupations like poultry and dairy farming.
