Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress, which is set to come to power in West Bengal, today dispelled fears that its cadre could unleash violence against the Left parties, saying its movement had been for change and not revenge.
Union Minister and Trinamool Congress MP Dinesh Trivedi said Banerjee's movement has been for peace and development. "Her motto has been change and not revenge...In fact it has been a vote against violence of the CPM," he said.
He was reacting to the apprehensions expressed by CPM MP Md Salim, who said violence should not erupt.
Salim said the Left parties in the state had a responsible organisational structure which could control its cadre.
Claiming that the Left Front was "down but not out", Salim said his party will play the role of the opposition based on its ideology.
On reasons for the Left's defeat, Salim said while it was "too early" to analyse the mandate, people have accepted Trinamool Congress as an alternative.
