West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee today charged the Trinamool Congress with hampering development work in Purba Medinipur, saying the Opposition party is "not allowing" the setting up of a number of industries in the district.

"Many companies have expressed interest to set up factories or plants in Purba Medinipur district.

A private company has expressed interest to set up a ship building factory in the district, there are also plans to set up a nuclear power plant at Haripur in the district but I fear that the Opposition Trinamool Congress would not allow these plans to materialise," Bhattacharjee said here.

"I have the same fear about the Nayachar Petrochemicals hub. The Opposition is thwarting the move to set up the Nayachar hub," he said.

"What do the opposition want? If they want development of Purba Medinipur they should allow industries to be set up in the district. How can there be any development without industries," he asked.

The Chief Minister claimed that the panchayats controlled by the Trinamool Congress are not allowing the government to prepare the BPL List in Purba Medinipur whereas in other districts of the state the work for preparing the BPL list is going on smoothly. The chief minister took an indirect dig at the Trinamool Congress, saying "after winning some assembly bypolls, the Opposition parties are thinking they will have the last word in all matters of the state".

If the government invites the Trinamool Congress for discussion on development matters, they do not attend such meeting, he further charged.
