Supporters of CPI(M) and Trinamool Congress today clashed at Jadubarichowk in Nandigram during a 12-hour bandh called by the TC to protest against the arrest of three of its activists following clashes during Thursday's polling.
The clash, which saw bombs being hurled and guns fired by both sides, broke out when the TC was taking out a procession in the CPI-M dominated area.
TC block president Abu Taher claimed that at least nine members of his party were injured, one seriously, in the clash. East Midnapore superintendent of police Pallab Kanti Ghosh said police reinforcement has been rushed to the area.
When contacted CPI-M leaders refused to comment. Jadubarichowk had witnessed violence during the forth phase of Lok Sabha elections on Thursday in which three TC supporters were injured.
Nandigram TC MLA Firoza Bibi had earlier complained to the Election Commission and police that her party supporters were being threatened by the CPI-M not to cast votes.
