The results of assembly by-election in West Bengal has been announced. Trinamool Congress candidate Firoza Bibi has won the Nandigram assembly constituency by 39,551 votes, PDCI got 1,311 votes and BJP got 4,079 votes.
Nandigram had witnessed unprecedented agitation and the loss of 14 lives last year following agitation against land acquisition there and political firing on agitators.
At Surjapur in Malda district, Congress candidate Mousum Benazir Nur has won by 21,398 votes and in the third constituency at Para in Purulia district, CPI(M) candidate, Minu Bauri has won by 40,787 votes. Except for the Nandigram seat, the other two seats were held by Congress and CPI(M).
