A notification to this effect has been issued, Special Secretary, Finance, R K Dey Chowdhury said adding the reduced rates would come into effect from today itself.
After the slash in cess, the price of petrol has been reduced from Rs 49.89 per litre to Rs 47.85 per litre and the price of diesel has been reduced from Rs 34.34 to Rs 33.68 per litre.
However, no relief has been given on LPG cylinders.
With the reduction on cess, the state's revenue collection will be reduced from Rs 60 crore to Rs 54 crore, he added.

Meanwhile, the state BJP unit has decided to launch Bidhan Sabha Abhijan on June 10 in protest against the hike in prices of fuel.
"We want to protest the anti-people policy of the Congress-led UPA government," said Manik Das, General Secretary of the party's state unit here today.
