The Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) president, K Chandrasekhar Rao, yesterday declared that his party would join a government at the Centre if it were to be formed by the Congress party.

Addressing a special convention being organised here in connection with the party's third anniversary, Rao claimed that joining the government at the Centre would help realise the dream of separate statehood for Telangana at the earliest.

"We would try to incorporate the issue of Telangana in the common minimum programme to be adopted for a coalition rule under the leadership of the Congress party," he said, while criticising those who were opposed to the idea of joining a government at the Centre.

Rao explained that creation of a Telangana state is possible only if the Parliament adopted a resolution in favour of a separate statehood for Telangana.

He argued that TRS would be in a better position to bring pressure on the Congress and other parties for adoption of a resolution if it joined the government.

"By joining the government we would also be able to rectify the injustices done by the Central Water Commission members in allocation of river waters to Telangana," he stated.

Rao claimed that his party would win 36 Assembly and six Parliamentary seats. He would soon tour the northern parts of the country and enlist the support of other smaller parties for the Telangana demand.
