Truckers in Maharashtra today called off their support to the national transporters strike following a state government assurance that their demands would be dealt within a month.

The Mahasangh, which represents 230 transporters associations in the state, decided to call off the strike after receiving an assurance from Chief Minister Ashok Chavan, a senior functionary of the Mahasangh, Irfan Bhiwandiwala, told PTI.

"We have called off the strike with immediate effect and transporters within the state will start operating soon," he said.

However, other associations which are not affiliated to the Mahasangh will continue to remain on strike called by the All India Motor Transport Congress.

The Mahasangh members held talks with the Transport Commissioner and Principal Secretary, Transport, today who mediated to end the seven-day long deadlock.
