Government-owned Punjab Energy Development Agency (PEDA) is keen on setting up at least two micro hydroelectric power generation projects in the state. |
"We will convince the Chief Minister of Punjab to allow the PEDA to set up one or two micro hydroelectric projects in the state on its own. The setting up of such a project by the PEDA would make it eligible to earn a 40 per cent subsidy from the union ministry of non-conventional energy resources," PEDA Chairman Vijay Inder Singla said. |

The punjab government has finalised 135 sites in the state where micro hydroelectic power generation projects would be set up. Out of the proposed 135 sites, 35 sites have already been allotted to private parties to set up the projects, while 12-15 projects are in the process of allocation, Singla added. |
|
For the remaining sites, the tenders will be shortly called for allocation, he said. |

With an aim of taking advantage of abundant snow melting expected this year, the PEDA will also focus on increasing its power generation in the state. |
|
"According to available reports, there would be more snow melting in the state this year, which would increase the water levels in the canals. So, in order to take the maximum advantage of the situation, the PEDA would lay special emphasis on enhancing hydroelectric power generation in the state," the PEDA Chairman said. |
