Uf Won'T Agree For Change In Leadership: Baalu

Union minister of state for petroleum and natural gas T R Baalu yesterday expressed confidence over the continuity of the United Front government at the Centre and ruled out change in Gowda's leadership.

Talking to reporters here Baalu said the Deve Gowda government would win the confidence vote on April 11 and added we will cross the bridge when it comes. However, he refused to spell out the basis for his immense confidence.

Baalu said he was confident that the Congress would reconsider its decision to withdraw support to uf government.

The Union minister sought to allay apprehensions over mid term polls to the Lok Sabha and said I don't foresee any mid-term polls.

Baalu ruled out change in Deve Gowda's leadership, as was being demanded by the Congress.

The United Front constituents won't agree for any change in leadershi, he said.

When his attention was drawn to the attack launched by Kesari against Deve Gowda, he said the Prime Minister will not care for such things.

Earlier, after inaugurating a private eye hospital which offers laser treatment to treat eye ailments in the city, Baalu called upon private sector health care organisations and voluntary bodies to contribute substantially to the Centre's effort in eradicating blindness.

He said the centre had launched a national blindness control programme and the programme aimed at reducing the prevalence of blindness to the level of 0.35 per cent by the turn of the century.

Baalu said to achieve this target, a minimum of 21 million cataract surgeries will have be conducted in the next seven years.

J Agarwal, chairman of the hospital, said the hospital had organised a team of doctors which would span out to rural areas in Karnataka to treat blind patients.
