United Way, a non-profit organisation that has its network in 46 countries and is raising close to $6 billion from over 17 million donors globally, launched its Hyderabad Chapter on Friday.

United Way stated in a press release it would focus on improving and mobilising the caring power of people for making a difference in the local communities of Hyderabad and Andhra Pradesh, specifically in the areas of health care, education and livelihood.

Supported in its endeavour by corporate organisations such as ADP, Bharat Biotech, Bank of America, Cognizant, Deloitte, GE Capital, JWT Mindset, LV Prasad Eye Hospital, Marriot, Microsoft, Novotel and Sathguru Consulting, United Way seeks to make a bigger and more significant impact in the local communities as a collective body rather than as organisations in their individual capacities.

United Way began its operations in India 20 years ago in Baroda. In 2002, it was established in Mumbai. Other local United Way organisations, actively engaged in community development, were established in Delhi, Bangalore and Hubli-Dharwad in 2008 and in Chennai in December 2009.
