The state government is banking on the central government to dole out alternative financing models, in public-private partnership, for its educational institutions.

Satyasadhan Chakraborty, minister-in-charge, higher education West Bengal said that the institutions required funds and the state government was hoping that the central government would come up with some financing scheme. Chakraborty was addressing a press meet to announce the east zone vice-chancellors' conference.

K Mohan Das, president Association of Indian Universities (AIU) said that the association had formed a committee to recommend some alternative financing schemes for the educational institutions.

At the conference, the vice-chancellors and directors of Indian university institutions in the eastern zone, some former vice-chancellors, administrators including heads of apex bodies, such as UGC, AICTE, NCTE, DEC and other stakeholders in higher education would present their vision and points of views.

These may include identification of bottlenecks in the development of higher education and suggestions of possible remedial measures.
