Uttar Pradesh, which is gearing up to launch e-governance from January 2011 is facing challenges in the form of seamless connectivity hurdles and inadequate power supply on its path.
Although UP is one of the most promising states in North India on the e-governance front, connectivity and power are proving to be the biggest impediments in its path.
“UP is performing good on e-governance front and is among the top achievers in North India. However, connectivity still remains the biggest issue for it,” union Information Technology secretary Shashi Kant Sharma told Business Standard.
Meanwhile, the Centre has asked public sector Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) to provide broadband connectivity to the Common Service Centres (CSC) being set up all over the country. In UP, CSCs are known as Jan Suvidha Kendra.
CSCs are the platforms to dispense e-governance. Under one roof, they offer host of services online, such as certificates pertaining to income tax, caste, death, birth and domicile, besides providing issuance/renewal of ration card, old age pension etc.
All these services normally take weeks to materialise and are traditionally provided in the district/tehsil headquarters and require multiple personal visits of the concerned person.
