After establishing guidelines for the development of non-polluting industries in Agra, the Uttar Pradesh government is now planning to bring out an industrial policy keeping the city in mind. |
This is likely to include the development of industrial and special economic zones in Agra and Firozabad, subsidising the manufacture of CPCB-compliant generators and increasing the CNG quota for local industries. |
Recently, S Ram, joint director, industries, UP, held discussions in this connection with the industrialists of Agra and Firozabad to formulate a new industrial policy which shall be placed before the Commissioner of Industries, UP, on 1 July for approval. |
According to Ram, the National Chamber of Industries and Commerce, UP demanded quick action on the development of an integrated special economic zone and release of a Rs 10.50-crore grant for the ailing foundry industry to help it develop the technology for a gas-based cupola furnace. |
He said it was observed that over the years, most of the industrial areas of Agra had either become too congested or had slowly been taken over by the fast-growing urban population, necessitating the development of newer industrial areas outside the city limits. |
Apart from that, he said the state government was also considering providing up to 50 per cent subsidy to Agra's generator manufacturers for fitting noise-suppressing canopies in their existing generators to make them CPCB-compliant. |
Ram said the state government had already gone ahead with plans to develop a 100-acre "Crystal City" in Firozabad to showcase the local glass industry that ranked among the largest glass manufacturing units in the world. |
In the proposed "Crystal City" project, he said the government had envisioned a mini-SEZ where industrialists shall have the benefit of interacting directly with importers through a world-class shopping complex that shall be constructed alongside some star-category hotels and other infrastructural facilities to attract foreign importers to the town. |
In Agra, he said the proposal of setting up an Integrated SEZ for the leather, handicrafts and carpet industry was in its final stages and a number of infrastructure development companies, including Parsvnath Developers and DLF, had submitted their proposals for the project. |
