Tightening the noose around industries flouting environmental norms, the Uttar Pradesh government has ordered the closure of 25 paper units based on agri-waste for their failure to set up chemical recovery plant.

The decision was taken at the meeting of state Environment Board chaired by UP Environment Minister Nakul Dubey here.

Dubey has asked his department to issue necessary directives to the respective district magistrates for immediate closure of these units.

Meanwhile, the government has also issued orders for effective compliance of bio-medical waste rules in the state. The concerned officials have been asked to inspect all hospitals, nursing homes and community health centres in the state and present detailed report in the next meeting of the Board.

According to the directives, all the Sewage Treatment Plants in UP will be regularly checked and the Board and senior environment officials apprised on regular intervals.
