The Election Commission (EC) today rejected Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav's charge that it was responsible for his party's defeat asserting that it was an "affront" to the voters."In a democracy, the distinctive feature is that people elect and the Election Commission does not. To say that the Election Commission is responsible for the defeat of a party is an affront to the voter," Chief Election Commissioner N Gopalaswami told PTI.He was responding to the outgoing UP Chief Minister Yadav's charge that the EC made full efforts to ensure the defeat of his party.
