To speed up economic emancipation of rural folks in Uttar Pradesh, the state government will invest Rs 248 crore during 2010-11 for setting up 9,500 village industries.
These units are expected to provide employment to around 82,000 people, while most of them are likely to come under the khadi segment.
Besides, the government intends to provide interest free loans to entrepreneurs for setting up industrial units in the state.
The government is also targetting to provide employment to 25,000 weavers and produce 640 million metres of handloom cloth in the next fiscal year. UP has made provision of funds to this end in the 2010-11 Budget, which was recently passed by the state assembly.
The Budget has provision for Rs 90 crore for development of tourist sports and development of related infrastructure facilities, especially in the Buddhist Circuit in the eastern region.
The Mayawati government proposes to incur Rs 5,810 crore for the construction and maintenance of roads and bridges to improve surface transportation. Since, the state economy is pre-dominantly agriculture based, a provision of Rs 4,125 core has been made for the sector. The government has set a target of 52 million tonnes and 1.4 million tonnes of food grain and oilseed production in the next fiscal respectively.
The state proposes to spend Rs 338 crore for the integrated development of agriculture and allied sectors under National Agriculture Development Programme.
