The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) today approved a Rs 1,011-crore e-project to streamline and integrate visa, immigration and foreigners’ registration and tracking process, which would be undertaken by the home ministry under the national e-governance plan.
The mission mode project, titled ‘Immigration, Visa and Foreigners Registration & Tracking (IVFRT)’, will develop and implement a secure and integrated service delivery framework to facilitate legitimate travellers while strengthening security.
The Cabinet today also approved the Dam Safety Bill 2010. The draft legislation aims to establish an institutional system to regularly monitor the safety of large dams, besides helping the states in adopting uniform dam safety procedures to ensure safety of dams and safeguard benefits derived from them.
Approval was also given to the Pharmacopoeia Commission for Indian Medicine as an autonomous society with the creation of a post of director-cum-member secretary. The commission to be set up at a cost of Rs 14.08 crore, for developing indigenous medicines and publication and revision of the Ayurvedic, Siddha and Unani Pharmacopoeia formulations.
In another decision, the Cabinet gave its in-principle approval to set up an autonomous Indian National Defence University at an estimated cost of Rs 295 crore. It also approved the acquisition of 200 acres at Binola in Gurgaon for Rs 100 crore.
The Cabinet Committee on Infrastructure made modifications in the guidelines of the Accelerated Irrigation Benefits Programme to provide assistance in a uniform manner besides enhancing the present cost norms from Rs 1.5 lakh per hectare to Rs 2 lakh per hectare.
