UPSBC expects Rs 20 cr profit in 2006-07

Uttar Pradesh State Bridge Corporation Ltd (UPSBC) hopes to earn a profit of about Rs 20 crore in the present fiscal.
 
The corporation, which faced a downturn some time back, has shown signs of improvement and is hopeful of tiding over its losses.
 
"We are progressing well. The corporation, from the beginning of the current fiscal, earned Rs 647 lakh till September this year and hopes to acquire much more by the end of the fiscal," said S K Saxena, senior accounts officer (UPSBC).
 
The net profits for 2005-06 were recorded to be around Rs 11.41 crore which has been more than double than that of the previous year (Rs 5.08 crore).
 
The corporation, at present, is handling the construction of about 384 bridges, which are supposed to be completed in two years.
 
Out of the 384 bridges, 56 bridges are 200 metres or above in length. These include railway over bridges as well. The corporation has received Rs 154 crore from the UP government till date for its various ongoing projects.
 
At present, three major projects are on their way in Lucknow. The money sanctioned for these three projects is approximately Rs 8,306.33 lakh.
 
The corporation targets to complete 145 bridges across the state by the end of this fiscal.
 
"The work is in progress and we will achieve our target in time. The ongoing work in Lucknow includes three major bridges which will be completed by March next year," said Saxena. This also includes one bridge at Gomti barrage involving the construction of 272-metre long six-lane footpath and cycle track along with 650 metres connecting roads.
 
The UP government till date has sanctioned Rs 2,279 crore for the construction of about 531 bridges in the state.
 
The corporation since 1973 till August 2006 has completed 1,737 contract-based projects for Delhi , Punjab, Gujarat, Daman, Maharashtra. It has also successfully constructed a number of bridges and roads in Iraq, Yemen and Nepal and brought a huge foreign currency for the country.
