The BPO bashers in the United States was unlikely to find any support from the US lawmakers even as a section of politician strive to pass legislation to block outsourcing jobs to developing countries like India.

"American industry is absolutely against such protectionist move. It (blocking outsourcing to low cost base) is mooted by politicians who come from districts with high unemployment in the US. I do not think any such proposal is getting passed by the House or Senate," Harry Harris, president of Global Management Associates and professor of University of California, said.

Speaking at an interactive session with Bengal Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI) he noted the outsourcing issue would be forgotten after the general election in that country. "US elections are always fought on domestic issues and not on foreign affairs. Economy and jobs are going to be two most important issues," Harris pointed out.

Coming out in defence of the outsourcing, he said the process help companies to focus on core competencies and thus improving efficiency. It also may help create new jobs.

He called for strong political will to tide over petite issue.

"Economic liberalisation will bring in political liberalisation," he said. Globalisation was a reality now and nobody would be able to reverse the process, he added.
