The United States has evinced interest for joint partnership with the Orissa government in sectors like mining, power, port development and education.
It is also keen to work in areas like water, sanitation and promotion of Centre for English Access Micro-Scholarship Programme in the state.
This was stated by U S Ambassador to India, Timothy J Roemer after his meeting with Orissa chief minister Naveen Patnaik in the state secretariat today.
“We discussed about the progress in Orissa and opportunities for us in sectors like mining, power, port development, education among others”, Roemer told the media persons.
Referring to his discussion with Patnaik, Roemer said, good governance would lead to good progress and this would lead to good results, culminating in national benefit.
On the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) sponsored pilot programme for water and sanitation, implemented in Gyannagar slum in Bhubaneswar, the U S Ambassador said, it was a highly successful project. This will be replicated in other areas in the months ahead.

Under the project, all households in the area would be provided piped water supply and sanitation facilities. About 17000 people are likely to benefit from the project which is implemented in collaboration with Bharat Integrated Social Welfare Agency (BISWA).
He said, India and US have exciting partnership in nuclear non-proliferation and nuclear security. He informed that Indian prime minister, Manmohan Singh and US President, Barack Obama would meet in the coming days. The US aims to keep the dangerous nuclear and chemical weapons out of the hands of dangerous people, he observed.
