If lawyers made effective use of technology in their practices, they can find ways to cut down delays in litigation, improve efficiency, increase client satisfaction and profits in the process, former Supreme Court judge B N Srikrishna has opined. "Most lawyers, even those who are making effective use of technology in law practice, do not think about how important technology innovations are in their professional work ... If they did, they would probably find more ways to cut delays, increase efficiency, client satisfaction and profits," Justice Srikrishna told a seminar on April 10 here.
Many of us in the legal fraternity - both lawyers and judges - view technological advances as simply something that happens around them, over which they have little influence, and prefer to flow with the tide, he said.
However, those who see opportunities in technological advances and seek to educate themselves on the subject, the possibilities for a more successful, rewarding and enjoyable law practice would increase every day, Justice Srikrishna told members of Labour Law Practitioners Association.
"Every practicing lawyer should make it a policy to regularly study some aspect of law office technology, towards exploring and implementing it for more effective delivery of legal services. We must adopt the perception that technology can actually advance us to the goal of quality service and improve quality of life", he said.
