Govt plans to invest Rs 100 crore in this project. |
The Uttaranchal government today said it would set up a horticulture university in the state with an initial cost of Rs 100 crore. |
An announcement to this effect was made by Uttaranchal Chief Minister N D Tiwari at a function marking the sixth year of Uttaranchal's formation. |
The new university is being set up at the Ranichori area of the Kumaon region on the pattern of G B Pant Agriculture University, Pantnagar. Its main aim will be to produce research scholars who can help boost the agro-based industry in the state. |
Agri-horticulture is the mainstay of Uttaranchal's economy and has the potential to provide employment opportunities and ecological securities. The thrust of the government is on high-value crops for higher profit to farmers. |
"Since the thrust is on the horticulture sector, the new university will be a milestone in this direction," Tiwari said. |
Tiwari also launched the citizen-centric land record website, which would make available the entire land record data of all the 14 districts of the state. |
With the launch of this website, citizens, mostly farmers, can view the details of their land records in both Hindi and English. With 100 per cent financial assistance from the Union ministry of rural development, the data details all the records pertaining to 16,618 villages of the state. |
