Visakhapatnam Steel Plant (VSP) created new records in energy savings during the calendar year 2002.
According to press release, specific energy consumption has come down from 7.08 Gcal/tls (giga calories per tonne of liquid steel) in the calendar year 2001 to 6.24 Gcal/tls during the year 2002.
Power consumption was also reduced to 495 kwh/tls from 593 kwh/tls during 2001 calendar year. During 2002, VSP achieved a labour productivity of 251tonnes/man year against 224 tonnes/man year.
Another highlight of the year 2002 was that VSP achieved zero fatal accidents. It also achieved the best ever sales turnover of Rs 500 crore during December 2002, which is the best for any December month since inception, the press release added.
