A wall of Godown no 24 at Kandla port collapsed in afternoon on Thursday, killing three labourers working in an adjacent godown and injured few others.

Three labourers died on the spot while one labour seriously injured in the accident was shifted for further treatment at Gandhidham Civil Hospital.

While speaking to Business Standard, A Janardhana Rao, Chairman of KPT said, "Due to heaping of loose wheat stock in godown no 24, excess pressure was generated on the walls of the godown, as a result it collapsed."

Labourers busy and engaged in packing and shifting the cargo were victims of this sheer accident, three labourers have passed away and one labour is injured, he added.

All of them being contract labourers, compensatory aspect of the victims shall be taken care by their respective contracting companies, said Rao.

However a shipping company official present at accident site said actually the wall collapsed was merely a partition and not strongly laid on foundation.
