Weavers from Warangal are all set to display their craftsmanship at an international exhibition in Sri Lanka.

Two entrepreneurs " Diddi Ramesh and Kumaraswami " working with the Shataranji Handloom Society Weavers Cooperative have been shortlisted to exhibit their masterpieces at the handloom exhibition to be held in Colombo from April 4, 2006.

The two are expected to sell Rs 2 lakh worth of durries at the 13-day exhibition.

Yashwanth Rao, assistant director of Handloom textile wing, Warangal, said, "The two weavers have been selected based on the unit's performance in durry making.

The exhibition would provide a platform for the local weavers to showcases their talent besides exhibiting the specialties of Warangal."

Other handicrafts like carpets, doormats, wall-hangings and tablemats also produced by weavers here would be showcased at the expo, Rao said, adding, around 1,500 families in Warangal were involved in weaving 'unique' carpets to be displayed in the exhibition.

Earlier, Warangal durries were exhibited in two international exhibitions in Kuala Lumpur in 2003 and 2004.

A one- month long exhibition of Warangal durries was held in Germany recently and two representatives " Kuchana Lakshminarayana and Pamu Yadagiri " got a chance to exhibit their talent.
