The state had fixed a target of adding 500 more centres every year in government-aided schools, industrial training institiutes and polytechniques, said Parijat De, director of technical education and training, government of West Bengal, the nodal agency for the implementation of the scheme.
The programme was started in 2005-06 and covers 1,500 such centres now. An amount of Rs 45 crore was already sanctioned for this year and the deapartment was likely to place a demand for the remaining amount in the next six months, De added. Nearly, Rs 71 crore was spent on developing vocational education centres in the state last fiscal.
