It has also successfully acquired 412 acres of land for coal mining directly from farmers. "WBMDTC is set to declare turnaround for 2012-13 with a profit after 35 years. This has been possible with the vision of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and industry minister Partha Chatterjee who offered turnaround roadmap," WBMDTC Deputy Chairman Amlan Basu told PTI. Sources said WBMDTC had posted a net profit Rs 6.5 crore for 2012-13.
The profit was expected to jump 200-300 per cent in the current fiscal as the state PSU had aimed to increase coal mining from 3.47 lakh tonne to one million tonne.

This will be possible as the mining PSU had successfully acquired 412 acres of land directly from farmers to increase coal production at Trams Damodar block at Bankura, the sources said.
"Farmers willingly offered the land to us as they were convinced with our transparency and the CSR work we had done in Bankura's Barjora area," Basu said.
"In line with chief minister's advise not to just increase production but also involve land losers, we are using transport from the landlosers cooperative to support their livelihood," he said.
Basu said the company began its own coal mining in Trans Damodar block in 282 acres in 2011-12.
"We have also offered four non-coal mineral blocks to contract miners and these will help us to register higher profit in the company which had an accumulated loss of Rs 137 crore," he said.
