The Western Electricity Supply Company (Wesco), one of the three power distribution firms managed by BSES in Orissa, has run into losses due to the non-cooperation agitation of the employees.
The Service Engineers' Association and other employees' unions have started non-cooperation movement in protest against compulsory retirement of three of their colleagues by the management.
The three executives were recently given compulsory retirement under section 17 (2) of the Officers Service Regulation for dereliction of duty, ineptitude and doubtful integrity.

Justifying the action, managing director S C Dutta said, the Officers Service Regulation was in vogue even during the functioning of the erstwhile Orissa State Electrcity Board (OSEB) in the pre-reforms period.
Subsequently, Grid Corporation (Gridco) which was formed after the dismantlement of OSEB referred to these regulations for administration purposes.
Dutta said revenue collection of the company has been badly affected due to the non-cooperation agitation.
While revenue collection has gone down by 50 per cent in the low transmission sector, overall, the collection has slipped to Rs 26 crore from Rs 30 crore in November.
Wesco, which was responsible for power supply in western districts of the state, had major industries such as Rourkela Steel Plant and Mahanadi Coalfields among its clients.
On an average, the company's monthly colleciton stood at Rs 35 crore as against the bulk supply billing of Rs 40 crore. In addition to this deficit of Rs 5 crore every month, the company sustained a loss of Rs 5 crore towards payment of staff salary.
Dutt appealed to the employees to restore normalcy failing which the company's bottomline will be impacted in particular and the reforms process in general.
