Information technology (IT) watchers, who keep an eye on West Bengal, have been pleasantly surprised by the recent government announcement that it would soon come out with a new IT policy. The statement of intent comes barely a fortnight after the state government announced a reasonably progressive set of rules and regulations for IT-enabled services (ITES) which reformed its archaic labour laws.
