West Bengal Sports Minister Madan Mitra today said that the State will bid for hosting the National Games in 2015.
Stating that West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has given a nod to bid for the National Games, Mitra said if everything goes well, Kolkata will get to host the National Games in 2015 after a gap of 50 years.
"We have got all the support from the Chief Minister to bid for the National Games. We have sent a request (to the IOA) to bid for the National Games. We are very excited to bid for the premier multi-discipline Games," Mitra said.
The city last hosted the National Games in 1964.
The 34th edition of the event was held in Jharkhand in February this year, while the IOA has awarded the next three editions to Kerala, Goa and Chhattisgarh.
