What is my crime, Arjun asks UP CM

What is my crime? This is the query which Union Human Resource Development Minister Arjun Singh has shot off to Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav following the latter's statement yesterday that Singh should be sent to jail.

Yadav had said yesterday that Arjun Singh should be sent to jail for making statements on the proposed reservation in higher education when the elections to five sate assemblies were on.

However, Arjun today sent him a reply asking him why Yadav wanted him in jail. "It is not clear to me the offence for which you want me punished," he wrote.

"As far as I can remember, I have committed no such crime to deserve such a punishment. If at all there is an offence involved, it was to get the Constitution amended on behalf of the UPA government with the support of all political parties. The amendment was to enable reservation for SC/STs and OBCs in higher education. I know that your party also had supported this," the letter said.

Arjun, who is leaving for Saudi Arabia, said he would contact the CM after he returned from there. "I would try to understand as to what according to you is the crime for which I must be sent to jail," he said in the letter.
