The all-party committee spearheading the agitation for a separate Vidarbha has strongly condemned Shiv Sena chief Bal Thackeray and his son Uddhav for their utterances and sought withdrawal of security provided to them by Maharashtra Government.

"We demand that all government security provided to both the Thackerays be immediately withdrawn," Vidarbha Rajya Sangram Samiti (VRSS) leaders Vilas Muttemwar, Ranjeet Deshmukh and Jambuwantrao Dhote said here last evening.

Condemning the undemocratic language used by them while talking about 'Mumbai-for-Maharashtrians' and non- Marathi-speaking people, Muttemwar, the local Congress MP and Deshmukh, a former MPCC chief, asked Chief Minister Ashok Chavan to take stern action against the father-son duo.

Dhote, a former MP, lashed out at the Thackerays "for using derogatory language" against Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi and said it amounted to "hitting below the belt".

They should refrain from using such language, he said.

Dhote also objected to use of abusive language against Congress President Sonia Gandhi.

"Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, whom the Sena leaders claim to follow, never used insulting language against women. He had great respect for women."

Meanwhile, due to a drought-like situation in Vidarbha and damage to crops following hailstorm on Thursday, the Samiti has put off its February 22 'jail bharo' stir.
