Brainstorming sessions on efficient energy management at the household and community levels will mark the five-day workshop on efficient energy management and renewable energy to be held at Thiruvananthapuram this month-end.

The workshop, funded by the US Agency for International Development (USAID), South Asia Regional Initiative for Energy (SARI/Energy), delivered by Energy Management Centre (EMC), Thiruvananthapuram and organised by PA Consulting Group, will get underway at the Sarovar Hotels' Muthoot Plaza from April 21 to 26.

According to a spokesperson, the workshop is being organised for women representatives from South Asia with the necessary skills and knowledge of efficient energy management at the household and community level.

The workshop will familiarise women on best practices in energy efficiency and energy conservation techniques, and will introduce the participants to renewable energy applications, which include efficient stoves, solar cookers, solar lighting and the like. Several diplomatic emissaries will also be attending the workshop.

Ghulam Samdani, area director (south) of Sarovar Hotels and general manager of Muthoot Plaza, which hosts the event, told Business Standard that more than 30 women delegates and their supporting staff from South Asian and Central Asian countries would arrive for the workshop.

"The Muthoot Plaza, which hosts the entire event, is getting renovated to receive the elitist contingents, comprising delegates, translators and interpreters. Everything related to the conference, right from the moment they land in Thiruvananthapuram airport till they go back, will be taken care of by us," Samdani said.

Women delegates representing Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka and India will attend the event.

Samdani added that the services for this event are going to be more personalised, with the Muthoot Plaza making sure that each lady will have a single point of contact; butlers and special amenities. "As many as 35 of our premium rooms are entirely booked for the contingent, for the week-long event," he added.

A series of aesthetic events is also being arranged, including ghazal concerts, mehndi designing, kathakali performance and beach dinner.
